Finding Our Warrick County, IN Ancestors
ELZA HOGAN aka Jack Elza Hogan Son of James W. Hogan and Maggie Chestine
Born: 2 Dec 1919 Herrin, Williamson Co., IL
Died: 6 May 1989 OK
Burial: Memorial Park Cemetery Enid, Garfield Co., OK
Married: never,
no record found
Elza Hogan was admitted to Warrick County Orphans Home
27 August 1930. His date of birth was documented as 2 December 1919, no
place of birth listed. James Hogan is listed as his father; it states James
Hogan is not dead.
No reason for placement was given.
I suspect
Elza was placed in the orphanage due to his father's poor health. James
W. Hogan died in 1932.
Maggie Chestine Hogan had died in 1927.
Elza was placed with William Blackwell RR 1 Chandler, Indiana 14 June
1931 and was returned by Wm. Blackwell 31 August 1931, no explanation given.
Elza was placed 14 June 1933 with Chas. Shafer RR, Boonville, Indiana
for summer. He returned 4 September 1933.
Elza was placed 3 February
1935 with Arthur C. Perigo RR 1 Boonville, Indiana. A descendant of this
Perigo family stated, "Elza remained with the Perigo family until he
enlisted in the Navy'.
Elza is listed, in the 1940 census residing
in the home of Grover Hogan, as his brother. This Grover Hogan is Elza's
cousin. I suspect he may have been visiting with the family while on leave
from the military. He enlisted in the Navy 14 Feb 1939.
