FLORA ALLEN
Daughter of William Calvin Allen and Rosetta Christmas
Born: 15 November 1889 Indiana
Died: 4 March 1902 Warrick County Orphans'
Home
Burial: Maple Grove Cemetery Warrick Co., IN
Cause of Death:
Tuberculosis
Flora and her brother, William Allen were sent to the orphanage on 23
December 1898 by the Greer Township Trustee. Their parents divorced in 1892
and both parents had remarried. Their father
moved to Missouri for a
time, but passed away in Mt. Vernon, Indiana at the age of 92. Their mother
died in 1896. No record has been found to know where the children were from
the time of her death until their admission to the orphanage. No birth record
has been found for Flora in the WPA records of Warrick County, IN. Her date
of birth is documented on admission to the orphanage. William Allen has
a WPA birth record and it matches the documentation for his admission to
the orphanage. Both children are documented in the 1900 census of the orphanage.
WILLIAM ELZA ALLEN or ELZA WILLIAM ALLEN or is he EDWARD W. ALLEN

Burial: Unknown or Union
Grove Cemetery Goodnow, Onieda Co., WI
Married: 31 March 1917 Cape Girardeau,
MO
MYRTLE M. BROOKSHIRE
No data on her parents
No date of birth.
The marriage record is the only record I have found for her.
William Allen was bound out to John Klein in 1901, I had not been able to find him in any census after his being sent to live with John Klein until further research showed some promise.
I did more searching for him and discovered he was William Elza Allen and went by Elza William Allen when he joined the Navy and then for his marriage and WWI and WWII draft records. I do not find Elza in the 1920 or 1930 census. On his WWII draft record he lists Earl Blackstone of Harshaw, WI as the person who will always know his address. When I looked at the 1940 census for Earl Blackstone I found an Edward W. Allen born in Indiana, the same age as Elza W. Allen. There is death and burial data for an Edward W. Allen that lists the same date of birth as Elza in the Social Security database. Is this the same man? I suspect it may be, further research is needed. I have obtained the obituary for Edward W. Allen and the funeral home record for his after care. I have someone who is going to check on his death certificate to determine what it contains. I have wondered if he legally changed his name??
