Sent to Camp Taylor, KY, assigned to Co A, 335th Inf. Transferred to Camp Sevier, SC, assigned to Co. M, 120th Inf, 30th Division. Sailed for France, May 15, 1918. Died Nov 6, 1918, 41st Stationar Hospital of pneumonia. Buried in Cemetery near this hospital, Grave 45, Hospice Military 545, Drury, Somme.



Austill, Opha - Son of John & Mary Austill, born May 18, 1889, near Folsomville. Employed in saw mill, Morehouse, MO. Entered service May 29, 1918, Morehouse, MO. Sent to Camp Dodge, IO, assigned to Co. A, 163rd Depot Brigade. Died Oct 7, 1918 at Camp Dodge of pneumonia. Buried at Folsomville.



Broshears, Walter - Son of Coy & Helen Broshears, born Feb 22, 1892, Newburgh. Farmer. Entered service Sep 19, 1917, Boonville. Sent to Camp Taylor, KY; assigned to Co. A, 335th Inf., transferred to Camp Sevier, SC; assigned to Co. M, 120th Inf, 30th Division. Sailed overseas May 24, 1918. Died Oct 28, 1918 in hospital near Rouen, France of broncho-pneumonia. Buried in Cemetery, St. Sever, Rouen, Seine Inferieure, France.



Day, Benton Esby Pvt. - Son of Benton & Clara Day, born Jul 5, 1895, near Tennyson. Farmer, Entered Service May 29, 1918, Boonville. Sent to Camp Wheeler, GA; assigned to 4th Co., 1st Provisional Reg.; transferred to 122nd Inf. Sent to Camp Mills, NY. Died Oct 13, 1918 of pneumonia. Buried at Bloomfield, IN.



Deneke, Edgar C. Pvt. - Son of Ferdinand & Frederica Deneke, born May 6, 1889, Elberfeld. Mechanic. Enlisted in US Regular Army Apr 19, 1917 at Vincennes. Sent to Jefferson Barracks, MO; transferred to El Paso, TX, assigned to Co. C., 16th Inf, Ist Div. Embarked Jun 14, 1917. Killed in action Jul 18, 1918 in Battle of Soissons. Buried in unknown place in France.

Sent to Camp Custer, MI, assigned to 4th Co., 1st Battalion, 160th Depot Brigade; transferred to Co. E., 14th Ammunition Train. Died Oct 13, 1918, Camp Custer, MI. Buried in Garrison Chapel Cem. Survived by widow, Esther Gammon & daughter, Norma Ruth Gammon of Tennyson.


Grill, Joseph C. Pvt. - Son of Andy & Celestine Grill, born Nov 2, 1894, Louisville, KY. Moved to Warrick in 1901. Entered service Sep 5, 1918, Boonville. Sent to Camp Taylor, KY; assigned to 60th Co., 15th Training Battalion, 159th Depot Brigade; transferred to 24th Co. 6th Battalion, 159th Depot Brigade. Died Nov 18, 1918, Camp Taylor, KY of pneumonia. Buried: Cross Road Cem., Boonville.



Hartig, Oscar S. Pvt. - Son of Fred C. & Kathryn Hartig; born Mar 13, 1897, near Newburgh. Farmer. Entered service Sep 6, 1918, Boonville as machinist. Sent to Camp Taylor, KY; assigned to 60th Co., 15th Training Battalion, 159th Depot Brigade. Died Oct 13, 1918, Camp Taylor, KY of influenza. Buried: Greenwood Cem., Chandler.


Hunt, George Almond Pvt. - Son of Isaac & Sarah Hunt (Stockings), born Dec 14, 1896, Boonville. Farmer. Entered service Aug 27, 1918, Boonville. Sent to Camp Sherman, OH; assigned to 21st Co., 6th Training Battalion, 158th Depot Brigade. Died Oct 12, 1918, Camp Sherman, OH of bronchial-pneumonia. Buried in Warrick County, north of Boonville.


Kappermann, Henry Michael Wagoner - son of William F. & Emilie Kapperman, born Jan 30, 1896 near Elberfeld. Farmer. Entered service Mar 29, 1918, Boonville. Sent to Camp Taylor, KY; assigned to 28th Co., 7th Battalion, 159th Depot Brigade. Transferred to Camp Mills, NY; assigned to Supply Co., 47th Inf, 4th Division. Embarked May 10, 1918. Killed in action in Meuse-Argonne offensive Oct 7, 1918. Buried in Argonne American Cem., Grave 176, Section 107, Plot 4, Romagne, France. American Legion Post, Newburgh IN, named in his honor.



Laswell, Frank Sgt. - Son of James & Ellen Laswell, born Jun 20, 1890, Boonville. Sent to Camp Taylor, KY; assigned to Co. A, 335 Infantry. Sailed overseas Sep 4, 1918. Died Oct 16, 1918, Langres, France of pneumonia. Buried in American Cemetery, Langres, Haute Marne, France.



Levertt, Charles M. Pvt. - Son of George M. & Anna Levertt (Scales), born Jan 5, 1896, Reed, Henderson Co., KY. Farmer. Enlisted in US Regular Army Jan 1915, Evansville. Sent to Jefferson Barracks, Mo. Transferred to Ft. Monroe, VA; assigned to Co. C, Coast Artillery Corps, 60th Division. Sailed overseas Apr 1918. Died Oct 15, 1918 from wounds received in action. Buried in France.



Lowe, Orville Pvt. - Son of Charles & Arry Ingram Lowe, born Feb 2, 1898, Boonville. Miner. Enlisted in Co. G, 4th Inf., IN National Guard, Aug 5, 1917, Boonville. Sent to Camp Shelby, MS, assigned to Battery D, 137th Field Artillery. Overseas Jun 12, 1918. Final assignment, Headquarters Co., 18th Field Artillery, 3rd Division. Killed in action Jul 18, 1918, Chateau-Thierry. Buried in American Cemetery No. 1764, Belleau, Aisne.

Orville's body was returned to Boonville in 1921 and is buried in Maple Grove Cemetery. There are some newspaper clippings from his time in the service where he wrote letters home. Virginia Aldridge sent the following about Orville Lowe:

Meyers, Jefferson O. 2nd Lt. - Son of Oliver Perry & Nora Mize Meyers, born Dec 14, 1888, near Elnora, Daviess County, IN. Moved to Warrick, May 1911. Graduate of Chicago University, Dept. of Law. Attorney, Ouray, CO. Enlisted in Officers Reserve Corp, Signal Corps, Jun 5, 1917, Omaha, Nebraska. Assigned to Aviation Svc; commissioned 2nd Lt. Overseas Nov 23, 1917. Killed in aeroplane accident Jun 1, 1918 near Ch�teau roux, France. Buried Maple Grove Cem.


Morrison, Ivor Wesley Pvt. - Son of Charles F. & Josephine Morrison, born Oct 15, 1890, near Elberfeld. Farmer. Entered service Sep 19, 1917, Boonville. Sent to Camp Taylor, KY; assigned to Co. A, 335th Inf. Died Jan 12, 1918, Camp Taylor, KY of pneumonia. Buried in Morrison Cem. Survived by widow, Lessie S. Morrison and two children, Mildred Leone and Ivor Bluford, Elberfeld.


Nordhorn, Bernard Pvt. - Son of Henry & Maria Louise Nordhorn, born Sep 9, 1892 Lynnville. Coal Miner. Entered service Jun 15, 1918, Boonville. Sent to Indianapolis; assigned to Chamber of Commerce School, Training Detachment No. 1. Transferred to Ft. Hancock, GA; assigned to 2nd Co., 6th Provisional Ordnance, Detachment Battalion. Sailed Aug 31, 1918. Died Oct 12, 1918, Camp Hospital, Mehun-sur-Yevre, France. Buried in Mehun-sur-Yevre, France.


Osborne, Melvin W. Sgt. - Son of Lydia Osborn (father's name unknown; parents both deceased), born Jul 14, 1888, near Folsomville. Adopted son of Mr. & Mrs. Wendell Schick. Farmer. Enlisted in US Regular Army, Jul 28, 1906, Evansville. Served in Cuba, Philippine Islands, Mexican Border & in Panama. Contracted tuberculosis; transferred to Ft. Bayard, NM, where he died of tuberculosis Nov 2, 1918. Awarded medal for bravery while in service on Mexican border. Buried at Ft. Bayard, NM.

Buried: Skelton Cem., survived by widow, Mame Posey, Tennyson.

Skelton, Omar Mertice Seaman, 2nd Class - Son of Hervey W. & Emma E. Skelton, born Jan 31, 1896, near Folsomville. Farmer. Enlisted in the US Navy Jun 4, 1918, Evansville. Trained at Great Lakes Naval Training Station, IL. Promoted to Asst. Commander of rifle range. Made instructor in Machine Gun Rifle practice. At time of death he was a member of Co. C, Reg. 2. Died Sep 28, 1918, Camp Logan, Zion City, IL of bronchial-pneumonia. Buried at Selvin.


Small, Ernest Gunner's Mate - Son of George S. & Della Small, born Jun 1, 1897, Chandler. Enlisted in US Navy Sep 24, 1913. Re-enlisted in 1916, Evansville. Sent to Goat Island, Calif. where he served as 1st Class Electrician & Gunner's Mate. Lost life Mar 4, 1918 on board the Cyclops when sunk by submarine.


Splittorff, Clarence J. Pvt. - Son of William & Anna Splittorff, born Mar 18, 1894, near Boonville. Farmer. Entered service on Aug 27, 1918, Boonville. Sent to Camp Sherman, OH; assigned to 21st Co., 6th Training Battalion, 158th Depot Brigade. Died Nov 18, 1918 at Camp Sherman of pneumonia. Buried: Morrison Cem.


White, Edward Oscar Sgt. - Son of C. P. & Sallie A. White, born May 20, 1892, DeGonia. Clerk. Enlisted in US Regular Army Apr 19, 1917, Hopkinsville, KY. Trained at Ft. Thomas, KY & Sam Houston, TX. Assigned to Quartermaster Corps. Sailed overseas Jul 22, 1917. Returned to US Jan 22, 1919 because of illness. Sent to US Hospital No. 21, Denver, CO. Died Jun 5, 1919, tuberculosis. Buried: Maple Grove Cem.
