Gunell, Thomas P.

THOMAS P. GUNELL born 1814 in Augusta Co VA being of English descent came to Warrick county about 1837 from Philadelphia PA. He was quite an industrious man a blacksmith by trade who reportedly walked on Monday mornings to Evansville to work the week and then walked back to his home in Newburgh every Saturday evening. He was interested in bettering the community and served on the Board of Trustees of Newburgh Methodist Church in its early days. He also served as one of four Trustees of the Rose Hill Cemetery Company in 1872.

Thomas was also active in politics and served as the districts representative to the national convention that elect Millard Fillmore to the office of president.
