Submitted by Tamara Kincaide

WILLIAM M. LEACH came to Newburgh with his family about the year 1841;WM was born in 1827 in Warrick County near Boonville. The family settled in a log cabin near the Ohio River. One day the young WM was out in his homemade boat trying to gather driftwood for the family fireplace. Not knowing how to handle his boat he began to drift and was being carried down river, Just then he was noticed by Frank DARBY also out in a boat to gather drift, Mr. DARBY seeing the boys plight used a pike pole to pull WILLIAM ashore. WILLIAM married three times, the first two of his wives died early. WILLIAM married third wife MILDRED J MYRICK and a son was born THOMAS LEACH.

In 1886 he married MARGERET SARGENT and together had daughter Flossie who died at age 7 and daughter Gladys who lived with her parents for many years.
