Bone, John

submitted by Linda

Generation No. 1
1. JOHN1 BONE was born Abt. 1810 in KY, and died May 16, 1849 in Helena, Arkansas. He married ARTEMIS M. SMALL November 09, 1836 in Warrick County, IN. She was born Abt. 1811, and died Abt. 1866 in Warrick County, IN.
Notes for JOHN BONE:
I suspect that John Bone was the son of a Cornelius Bone and Trifenia Reeve although I have nothing that can prove this however keep in mind the following pieces of information:
1. Tuphena Bone married Charles Little in 1838 in Warrick County, IN (This was two years after John and Artie's marriage). (This is per typed written pages in early Warrick County , IN marriages -- per the CD rom version.. Charles Little married Triphena Bone.)
2. In the 1850 census of Pike County, IN Charles Little was married to Fraphina .. Charles was an 80 year old Mec minister and Fraphina was 57 years of age.
3. In 1830 I can not locate Charles Little in IN, nor can I locate a Fraphina or Triphena Bone.. In fact there are no Bone's in Indiana census that year.
4. In 1840 I can only locate a handful of Bone family in Indiana. Of the six listed in the census that year all are half way across the state with the exception of John Bone (Artie's husband).
5. In 1810 Cornelius Bone marries Trifenia Reeve in Muhlenburg County, Kentucky.
Also in 1810 a Charles Little can be found living in Todd County, Kentucky.
6. In 1820 Cornelius is not listed in the Kentucky census records however there is a Trifenia Bone listed two children are listed as living in the household.
7. In 1830 Triphenia Bone is listed in census records for Muhlenburg County, Kentucky living down the road from John Bone (revolutionary soldier). Two children are listed.
8. In 1840 Triphenia Bone is no longer listed in Muhlenburg County census records... in fact I can not locate her in KY census at all.
9. Per History of Muhlenburg County... A Cornelius Bone enlisted under Capt. Alney McLean in Nov. of 1814... per the records, this company engaged in battle of New Orleans in January of 1815. The records do not list him as having died in that battle, however after digging thru record books for Muhlenburg County I can not locate him there again after this. Perhaps he moved or was killed in battle.

A biographical sketch on John's son William Henry Bone states that John died May 14, 1849 in Helena, Arkansas. The article does not state why he was there nor does it state if his wife was with him at the time of his death but according to the 1850 census of Warrick County she was living in Owen Township,Warrick County, Indiana with her two young sons. The 1840 census records show that both John and Artie were from KY as does the biographical sketch. The County they were from seems to be the big question. Since there were three John Bone's all living in KY around this time frame and all three seem to be accounted for as do there families. The only place he seems to fit is if he were the son of Trifenia Bone. Since per the 1850 census she was 57 years old this means she would have been born somewhere around the year 1793. This also means that she would have been approximately 17 years of age at the time that a Trifenia married Cornelius Bone in 1810 in Muhlenburg County, KY. Again I would like to stress the fact that I am grasping at this conclusion but so far nobody has come forward to disprove this either and I have found no other family members for Triphenia either. My speculation would also be that Cornelius Bone was somehow related to John Bone of Muhlenburg County, KY (The revolutionary soldier... however he would have been to young to have been his son and he was not mentioned in the will. But again logic steps in and states since Cornelius would possibly have already been deceased for over 10 years this is most likely the reason why he would not have been mentioned in the will. So far other researchers have located some information on an Azariah Bone and I have heard some say that Azariah and Cornelius may have been brothers. But again we are stretching this quite a bit now.
Notes for ARTEMIS M. SMALL:
I have found several variations of spelling for Artimicia's name. Per the biographical sketch on her son William Henry Bone, she went by the name "Artie". For simplicity I will refer to her as Artie from here on out.
No grave site has been located for her however we suspect she is buried somewhere in Warrick County in an unmarked grave as that is where she lived out her life. The only record I can locate documenting her date of death is from her son- William's, biographical sketch which states she died in 1866. I can not locate any record of this in any of the reference books in Warrick County or Vanderburgh County libraries. Both of her sons and many of her grandchildren are buried in Log Creek Cemetery in Lockhart Township, Pike County, Indiana.
