Scifres, Mathice

submitted by Wallace Scifres

My Great Uncle Wallace M. Scifres was the brother of Simon B. Scifres my grandfather. I was named after my Great Uncle. I have some info that I have not been able to confirm. This was passed down to me from my Great uncle Wallace Mathice Scifres, by his Aunt Sallie Scifres Lambert 2-18-1925. I have the family Bible that this is in. Mathice Scifres born 1753 died 1857, 104 years old married Sarah Edwards-no dates- Mathis Scifres came from what is now Germany to Philadelphia when he was 19 years old. Came to America in 1772 - Taught School in Philadelphia and New York. He taught 8 Languages. He married 4 times had 33 children.
