1900 Warrick County, IN Census Records: Boon Township Orphan's Home

"I have a photo of this matron EMMA WELDON and on the back it said "AT THE HOME". I think that is possible the house behind her was the orphan home, but not much of the house is shown in the photo. She is standing with Mary Hickman, whom may or may not be the assistant listed below named MARY KELLEY."

All the children listed attend school and can read & write according to this list.

I read a few years ago an interview of a person who spent time at the orphan home in Boonville. You were allowed to stay, I believe, nine years and one day. When this person was about ten years old he was told that his allotted time was up and he would have to leave the next day. Out on his own at age ten. - Gilbert Schmitt
